The Short Version

A harbour warehouse, a card table, and a bad joke that stuck

Pepper Chepper began in 1998 as a single card room set inside a converted pepper-and-spice warehouse on the old harbour front. The building had spent half a century storing dried chillies, peppercorns and paprika shipped in from three continents, and long after the crates were gone the smell of it never quite left the timber. When the founders converted the ground floor into a twelve-table gaming room, regulars started calling it "the pepper house," then "Pepper Chepper" after a mispronunciation nobody bothered to correct. The name outlived the joke.

What began as a single room is now a full resort spread across four connected wings, a private marina, and eleven acres of terraced gardens. We kept the name because it says something true about how we operate: precise, a little provocative, and never bland. Every part of the property, from the felt on our tables to the pacing of our tasting menus, is built around the same principle. Comfort is the baseline. Intensity is the point.

The Gaming Floor

The casino floor is organised the way a good kitchen is organised — by intensity. The outer ring holds our slot terraces and low-stakes tables for guests easing in. The inner ring, lit low and lined in oxblood leather, is where the serious limits live. There is no dress code that says "high roller," but you will know the room when you reach it.

Table Games

Sixty-one live tables run around the clock across baccarat, blackjack, roulette, Ultimate Texas Hold'em, three-card poker, Casino War and Pai Gow. Our blackjack pit runs both six-deck shoe games and a small, closely watched single-deck section for purists. Dealers rotate every forty minutes, tables are re-shuffled to house procedure, and every pit is monitored by a floor manager who can adjust limits in real time for qualifying players.

Slots & Electronic Games

Four hundred and ten machines span the floor, from penny reels near the terrace bar to a dedicated high-limit slot room with denominations up to €500 a spin. We hold a mix of classic three-reel mechanical-style games, video slots with progressive jackpots linked across our sister properties, and a full rail of electronic roulette and baccarat terminals for guests who prefer to play at their own pace without joining a live table.

The high-limit slot room is separated by a frosted glass wall and its own host desk, with private cash-out service so winners are never asked to carry chips across the open floor.

The Spice Index: four tiers of play, rated by heat

Every membership programme ranks players by spend. Ours ranks them by how much heat they can handle. The Spice Index is our internal scale for lounge access, host attention and comp structure — mild guests are welcome everywhere on the floor, but Inferno members get a floor of the resort that doesn't appear on any map we hand out at reception.

By invitation only. A single, unmarked salon with two tables, negotiable limits, and a host who already knows your usual seat.

Our culinary programme is led by a rotating head chef residency, refreshed every eighteen months, but the philosophy stays fixed: seasonal Mediterranean ingredients, open flame wherever possible, and heat used as an instrument rather than a gimmick. Reservations for all four rooms can be made through the concierge or at check-in; Ember Room members and above skip the waitlist entirely.

Every room at Pepper Chepper looks out over either the harbour or the terraced gardens — there are no interior-facing rooms in the property. Suites are organised into four categories that roughly mirror our Spice Index membership tiers, though any guest may book any room regardless of play history.

The Chilli Room: 900 seats, no bad ones

Our resident theatre hosts a rotating calendar of headline residencies, late-night jazz sets, and a signature Saturday cabaret built around fire, flamenco and flavour — yes, there is a live grill built into the stage design, and yes, the smell reaches the back row on purpose. Doors typically open ninety minutes before curtain, with a dedicated pre-show bar service in the lobby.

Beyond the main stage, the resort also runs a smaller 140-seat lounge for stand-up, poker commentary nights during major tournament weeks, and private buyouts for corporate groups.

Pepper Chepper Gaming & Resorts S.A. is a private gaming and hospitality company headquartered on the Mediterranean coast, operating a single flagship resort property alongside a small portfolio of licensing agreements with sister venues. The company was founded in 1998 when a converted spice warehouse on the old harbour front reopened as a twelve-table card room. Today the same site houses a full resort: four connected wings, a private marina, eleven acres of terraced gardens, 128 suites and villas, four restaurants, one theatre, and a casino floor spanning sixty-one live tables and 410 gaming machines.

Our Approach

We built this company around one belief: that hospitality and gaming should never feel diluted for the sake of comfort. A resort can be soft in its service and still be direct in its character. That's why every part of the guest experience, from our Spice Index membership tiers to our chef-led tasting menus, is built around clear, honest gradients of intensity rather than vague notions of "luxury." A guest should always know exactly what kind of evening they've chosen.

Governance & Licensing

Pepper Chepper Gaming & Resorts S.A. operates under a gaming licence issued by the Malta Gaming Authority and is subject to regular independent audit of its gaming operations, cash handling procedures, and responsible gambling programme. Our compliance office reports directly to the board of directors and maintains a dedicated liaison with regulators for licensing renewals, incident reporting, and player-protection standards.

Careers

The resort employs just under six hundred staff across gaming operations, food and beverage, hospitality, entertainment and back-of-house functions. At Pepper Chepper, we build our entire brand around heat and intensity, but we take exactly the opposite approach to how we talk about gambling risk: plainly, calmly, and without exaggeration. Gambling should always remain entertainment. If it stops feeling that way, we want you to know exactly what to do next, and exactly who is available to help.

Know the Signs

Gambling can become a problem when it starts to affect your finances, relationships, work, or mental health. Warning signs can include spending more time or money gambling than you intended, chasing losses, borrowing money to gamble, feeling anxious or irritable when not gambling, or hiding the extent of your play from people close to you. Recognising these signs early makes it far easier to regain control.

Tools Available at Pepper Chepper

Our Guest Services and Compliance teams offer a number of tools free of charge to any guest who requests them, including deposit and loss limits for account-based play, voluntary time-outs of 24 hours to six months, and permanent self-exclusion from the casino floor and all Pepper Chepper properties. Requests can be made confidentially in person at Guest Services, through your account manager, or via our Responsible Gambling Support contact listed on our Contact page.

Self-Exclusion Programme

Guests who choose self-exclusion will be removed from all marketing communications, denied entry to the gaming floor, and have any Spice Index membership benefits suspended for the duration of the exclusion period. Self-exclusion requests are processed promptly and cannot be reversed early except through the formal reinstatement process required under Maltese gaming regulation, which includes a mandatory cooling-off period.
